Overview
A station has decks, and the decks are the channels. Station Decks holds the Bridge, the Main Hangar, the Medbay, the Engineering Deck, the Crew Quarters, the Cantina, the Observation Deck, the Cargo Bay, the Security Brig, the Science Labs and the Promenade; Beyond the Station covers the Docking Ring, an Asteroid Field, the Derelict, Shuttle Runs and a Planet Surface. Six departments are roles, Command, Engineering, Medical, Security, Science and Flight Deck, and each has a room in Department Rooms visible only to its members and the game masters, so the security office is a closed door. The Station Database is read-only lore written by the Lore Officer and the game masters: schematics, a sector map, factions and corporations, a species registry, tech and ships, and the timeline. Missions has a read-only #mission-board, #mission-signups, two active mission channels and #mission-debriefs. Out of Character has the lounge, plot planning, a #character-dossiers forum tagged by department, ship and tech designs, questions and #lfrp. Arrivals see the Airlock and OOC only until their dossier is approved. Comms has Bridge Comms, Cantina Voice, two mission channels and a Station Broadcast stage; the GM Deck holds plot secrets, NPCs and antagonists, dossier reviews and Vetox logs.
When to use it
Your crew roleplay has a bridge and a bar and nothing in between, and every department conversation happens where the rest of the station can read it. This layout builds the station deck by deck, gives each department a room its own members and the game masters can see, and runs missions from a board with signups and debriefs. The station database keeps the setting's facts read-only, and arrivals stay in the airlock until their dossier is approved.
What makes it different
- Eleven station decks and five off-station locations, each a channel named for the place.
- Six department rooms, each visible only to that department's role and the game masters.
- Missions run from a read-only board through signups, two active channels and a debrief.
- The Station Database is read-only lore written by the Lore Officer and game masters.
- Arrivals see the Airlock and OOC only until a dossier is approved.
Recommended Vetox setup
Applications
An application panel in #crew-applications for the dossier, reviewed in #dossier-reviews with Crew or Civilian granted on approval.
Self-Roles
A Self-Roles panel in #department-assignment for the six departments plus Mission Ping and Alert Ping, so choosing a department opens its room.
Reminders
A Reminder in #mission-board an hour before each mission, so the crew who signed up are on the bridge when it starts.
Logs
Logs into #mod-logs on the GM Deck, so an edited in-character post in #active-mission-alpha can be checked when a result is disputed.
Questions
What is the difference between Crew and Civilian?
Both are approved characters and both see every public deck. Crew hold a department role and its room; Civilians are traders, passengers and residents with no department. A civilian who joins a department later just adds the role.
How do missions work?
A game master posts the briefing in #mission-board, players sign up in #mission-signups with their character, the mission runs in #active-mission-alpha or #active-mission-beta with voice in the matching Mission Channel, and the outcome is written up in #mission-debriefs.
Can the station be a ship instead?
Yes. The decks are the same: rename the Promenade to a mess deck and the Docking Ring to a launch bay, drop the Planet Surface if the ship never lands, and keep the departments.
Common mistakes
- Putting department business in public decks, so the security office's plans are read by the people it is watching.
- Running missions in the Bridge channel, which buries the station's everyday scenes under one operation.
Consider instead
- Roleplay Starter You have a few players and one ship; five locations and a storyteller room cover it until the crew grows.
