Overview

A school day has places, and each is a channel. Campus holds the Main Hall, Classroom 1A, Classroom 2B, the Science Lab, the Library, the Cafeteria, the Courtyard, the Gymnasium, the Rooftop, the Infirmary and the School Gates; the Dormitory has a common room, east and west wing dorms and a kitchen. Clubs are the school's factions: Drama, Sports, Science and Music each have a club room that everyone can read but only members post in, and the club roles are self-assigned. Year roles, First Year, Second Year and Third Year, plus Teacher for staff characters, are the in-character hierarchy; Student Council is a role for the players who organise events. The School Handbook is the read-only lore: campus map, school history, clubs directory, faculty list and #events-calendar, which the Faculty GM keeps current with the term's festivals, exams and trips. Out of Character has chat, plot planning, a #student-files forum tagged by year and #questions. Applicants see the Front Office and OOC only until enrollment is approved. Voice has Courtyard Voice, a Club Meeting room and an Assembly Hall stage for school-wide events. The Faculty Lounge is the hidden staff room with plot secrets, enrollment reviews and Vetox logs. The setting is all-ages by design.

When to use it

Your school roleplay has one classroom channel and one dorm channel, every club meets in general, and nobody knows which year anyone is in. This layout gives the campus eleven places and the dorm four, gives each club a room its members post in, makes year groups visible as roles, and puts the term's events on a calendar the faculty controls. Enrollment is an application, so applicants wait at the front office until a character is approved.

What makes it different

  • Eleven campus locations and a four-room dormitory, each a channel named for the place.
  • Four club rooms that everyone can read but only that club's members post in.
  • Year roles and a Teacher role carry the in-character hierarchy; Student Council runs events.
  • #events-calendar is read-only and holds the term's festivals, exams and trips.
  • Applicants stay at the Front Office until enrollment is approved.

Recommended Vetox setup

  • Applications

An application panel in #enrollment for the student file, reviewed in #enrollment-reviews with a year role granted on approval.

  • Self-Roles

A Self-Roles panel in #year-and-club-roles for the four clubs and Event Ping, so joining a club opens posting in its room.

  • Reminders

A Reminder in #events-calendar the day before each school event, so the Student Council and the players are there when the festival opens.

  • Counting

A Counting game in #dorm-common-room gives the dorm an out-of-hours activity that stays in character as a house tradition.

Questions

How do year roles work?

A character is enrolled as a First, Second or Third Year and the role is granted with approval. Move them up a year at the end of each in-character term; the roles are hoisted so the year groups are visible in the member list.

Can a student be in two clubs?

Yes. Club roles are self-assigned and stack, and each one adds posting rights in that club's room. Everyone can read every club room, so a club's scenes are public even when membership is not.

Is this setting suitable for all ages?

Yes, by design. The rules channel sets a wholesome tone, the content filter is on for everyone, and nothing in the layout assumes otherwise. Keep it that way when you add channels.

Common mistakes

  • Making one classroom channel, so three classes worth of scenes run on top of each other.
  • Letting anyone post in every club room, which makes the clubs meaningless as groups.

Consider instead

  • Modern City Roleplay The story leaves the campus and the cast needs jobs, districts and apartments across a whole city.
