Channels

GATEHOUSE

  • welcome

Welcome, traveller. Read #rules-of-play, submit a character in #character-applications, then wait in #ooc-chat for approval.

  • rules-of-play

Posting format, godmodding, metagaming, consent for conflict, and how a scene is resolved when players disagree.

  • announcements

World events, new lore, schedule changes and openings for game masters.

  • character-applications

Submit your character here. A storyteller reviews it and grants the Roleplayer role.

  • pick-your-faction

Once approved, choose a faction. It reveals your faction's hall.

OUT OF CHARACTER

  • ooc-chat

Players talking as players. No in-character posts here.

  • plot-planning

Arrange scenes, agree outcomes in advance, ask a game master to run something.

  • character-sheets

One thread per approved character. Tag the faction. Edit the first post as the character grows.

  • character-art

Art of your character, commissioned or drawn. Credit the artist.

  • questions

Ask about the setting, the rules or the roles. A game master or lorekeeper answers.

  • lfrp

Looking for a scene partner. Say where, when and what kind of scene.

LORE LIBRARY

  • world-map

The realm, its neighbours and the roads between. Pinned at the top.

  • history-of-the-realm

  • magic-and-creatures

How magic works, what it costs, and what lives in the Wilds.

  • laws-of-the-crown

What is a crime, who judges it, what the punishment is. The Crown Guard enforce this.

The tavern by the market. Where most stories start.

Overview

A kingdom, mapped. In-character channels are named for places: the Capital has the Golden Stag Tavern, Market Square, the Throne Room, the Castle Courtyard and Dungeons, the Temple of Dawn, the Mage Tower, the City Gates, the Back Alleys and the Harbor Docks; the Wilds have the King's Road, the Whispering Forest, the Mountain Pass, the Old Ruins, the River Crossing and a Border Village. Six factions are roles, Crown Guard, Merchant Guild, Shadow Court, Temple of Dawn, Wildfolk and Mage Circle, and each has a hall in the Faction Halls category that only its members and the game masters can see. The Lore Library is read-only and holds the world map, the realm's history, the factions and houses, magic and creatures, the laws of the crown and an NPC directory; Lorekeepers and game masters write there, nobody else. Out of Character holds #ooc-chat, #plot-planning, a #character-sheets forum tagged by faction, #character-art, #questions and #lfrp. Quests and Events has a read-only #quest-board, #event-signups and two in-character event channels. Newcomers see the Gatehouse and the OOC channels only until a storyteller approves their sheet and gives them the Roleplayer role. Voice has a Tavern room, two session rooms and a Fireside Stories stage for narrated sessions. The Storyteller Room, hidden from all players, holds plot secrets, NPC control, character reviews and Vetox logs.

When to use it

Your kingdom has outgrown a single in-character channel: players want to be in different places at once, factions are plotting against each other in DMs, and the lore lives in a document nobody reads. This layout gives every location a channel, every faction a hidden hall, the lore a read-only library, and new arrivals a gate they cannot pass until their character is approved. Storytellers run events from a quest board and keep secrets in a room no player can see.

What makes it different

  • Sixteen in-character locations across the Capital and the Wilds, each named for the place.
  • Six faction halls, each visible only to that faction's role and the game masters.
  • The Lore Library is read-only; Lorekeepers and game masters are the only writers.
  • Newcomers cannot see any in-character channel until a storyteller approves their sheet.
  • A Fireside Stories stage for narrated sessions alongside two session voice rooms.

Recommended Vetox setup

  • Applications

An application panel in #character-applications that collects the sheet, with results reviewed in #character-reviews and the Roleplayer role granted on approval.

  • Self-Roles

A Self-Roles panel in #pick-your-faction for the six faction roles, plus Event Ping and Plot Ping, so joining a faction unlocks its hall without a moderator.

  • Reminders

A Reminder in #quest-board the day before each scheduled quest, so the players who signed up in #event-signups are online.

  • Logs

Logs into #mod-logs in the Storyteller Room, so an edited or deleted in-character post can be recovered when a dispute comes up.

  • Leveling

Leveling with Veteran Roleplayer as a role reward, so long-standing players are recognised by presence rather than by a moderator's memory.

Questions

How does a player join a faction?

They pick the role in #pick-your-faction after their character is approved. Holding the role reveals that faction's hall and nothing else; leaving the faction is dropping the role. Game masters see every hall.

What is the difference between the Storyteller and Game Master roles?

Storyteller is the owner of the world and holds administrator permissions. Game Masters run scenes and events, write lore, review sheets and see every faction hall, but cannot change the server's structure.

Can I add a location?

Create a text channel inside the Capital or the Wilds and it inherits the category's permissions, including the newcomer restriction. Name it for the place, not the activity.

Where do private scenes happen?

In threads inside the location channel where the scene is set, so the scene stays attached to the place. Faction-only scenes go in the faction's hall.

Common mistakes

  • Letting newcomers into in-character channels before their sheet is approved, which fills the tavern with characters that break the setting.
  • Making the lore channels writable, so the canon drifts every time a player adds a detail.

Consider instead

  • Roleplay Starter You have a handful of players and one town; five locations and a storyteller room are enough to begin.
  • Play-by-Post Campaign One game master is running one party through a plot, rather than an open world where players act on their own.
