Overview
Built for the clan-and-territory style of animal roleplay, which has its own conventions and, unusually for the genre, a membership that often skews young — so moderation here is deliberately more careful than a general roleplay server's. Territories is the map: #the-camp as each clan's centre, #hunting-grounds, #the-border, #the-river and #the-highlands, with the border channel doing most of the work because clan roleplay is fundamentally about edges. Clans are the social structure: four clan channels plus #clan-meetings and #rank-ceremonies, since ranks earned in play rather than assigned at signup are what makes the hierarchy mean anything. #ranks-and-roles explains how each is earned. #seasons is read-only and drives the whole setting: a stated season with its effect on prey, weather and danger, changed by moderators on a schedule, which gives an ongoing roleplay a rhythm it otherwise lacks. Out of Character keeps #character-sheets, #plot-planning, #lfrp and #art-and-refs. Safety is a proper category rather than a footnote: #server-rules covers the age-appropriate content line plainly, #report-anything is open to everyone, and moderators are visible and named. The staff area records concerns properly. No levelling ladder is used, because rewarding message volume in a server with young members is the wrong incentive entirely.
When to use it
Animal roleplay servers usually copy a generic roleplay layout, which misses what the genre actually runs on: territory edges, ranks earned through play, and a seasonal cycle that gives an endless setting some rhythm. They also frequently have younger members and moderate as though they do not. This layout provides the genre's structure and treats the safety floor as a first-class part of the design.
What makes it different
- The border channel is central, because clan roleplay is fundamentally about edges.
- Ranks are earned in play through ceremonies rather than assigned at signup.
- A seasons channel drives prey, weather and danger, giving an endless setting a rhythm.
- Safety is a category with an open reporting route, not a line in the rules.
Recommended Vetox setup
Auto-Mod
Run Auto-Mod strictly, since this genre reliably attracts younger members and needs a dependable floor.
Self-Roles
Post a Self-Roles panel in #pick-your-clan so a member lands in the right clan channels themselves.
Tickets
Point Tickets at #report-anything so a member can raise something privately with a named moderator.
Reminders
Set a Reminder on the seasons cycle so the setting actually changes rather than staying in one season forever.
Questions
Why does the border channel matter so much?
Because in clan roleplay almost every plot begins at an edge: a trespass, a patrol, a stranger, a negotiation. A server that treats the border as one location among many buries the channel that generates most of its story. Giving it prominence, and letting patrols be a recurring low-commitment scene, is what keeps an ongoing clan roleplay in motion.
How should ranks be earned?
Through played scenes with a ceremony to mark them, judged by moderators against something written in #ranks-and-roles. The specific requirements matter less than that they exist and are visible: a rank handed out on request is a label, while one earned over weeks is the thing that makes a hierarchy worth roleplaying inside.
What does the safety floor need to cover?
A plain statement of what content is not permitted given the likely age range, a rule against moving conversations into private messages, an open reporting channel, and moderators who are named rather than anonymous. It also means declining to run a levelling system, which rewards time spent online and is a poor incentive for a young membership.
Common mistakes
- Assigning ranks at signup, which removes the entire point of a clan hierarchy.
- Never changing the season, so an ongoing roleplay has no rhythm and slowly flattens.
- Moderating a server with young members as though it were an adult roleplay group.
Consider instead
- Fantasy Kingdom Roleplay The setting is human-scale fantasy with courts and factions rather than clans and territory.
- Roleplay Starter The group is small and does not yet need clans or a seasonal cycle.
