Small Squad, No Ranks
A squad server for five to twenty friends: one chat, one LFG channel, one plan, three voice rooms and no ranks.
- 3 categories
- 12 channels
- 6 roles
- Small
Choose a server, review what will be created or reused, then confirm. Merge keeps what you have; replace rebuilds the server. Vetox takes a safety backup first either way.

SQUAD
- squad-chat
The one chat. Pin the things that matter; there is no rules channel.
- lfg
Ping Looking to Play when you are on and say what for. Reply to join.
- our-games
Who owns what. Keep one pinned message per game with the names, so a suggestion is never a poll.

Friend codes, server addresses, passwords and lobby codes. Pin the current ones.
- clips
The good plays and the terrible ones. One clip per message.
- not-games
Everything that is not a game: food, work, the weather, the group's running jokes.

- game-plan
The one planning channel: next session, who is in, what the goal is. Hidden from guests.

Overview
For a squad that is really a group of friends: five to twenty people who play together most weeks and do not want a rank structure, an officer room or a promotion ladder. There are three categories. Squad holds #squad-chat, #lfg where anyone pings Looking to Play when they are on, #our-games as a pinned list of who owns what so nobody suggests a game half the squad does not have, #codes-and-servers for friend codes and server addresses, #clips and #not-games for everything else. The Plan is the only private area: #game-plan is the one planning channel, where the next session, the roster and the goal are decided, and Planning Call is its voice room. Both are hidden from the Guest role, which is what a friend-of-a-friend gets when they are invited for a session, so guests see the chat and the voice rooms but not the plans. Voice is Squad Room, an Overflow Room for when there are too many for one lobby, a Chill Zone for hanging out and an AFK channel. There are no moderators because the host is the moderator; the Host role has the only elevated permissions in the server, and every other role is cosmetic.
When to use it
Your friend group has a server that grew by accident: a rules channel nobody reads, three announcement channels and a moderator role that means nothing. This layout throws that away and keeps what a squad actually uses - one chat, one LFG channel, one planning channel and a few voice rooms - with the single permission line drawn between the squad and its occasional guests.
What makes it different
- The only private channel is #game-plan, and the only role it hides from is Guest.
- #lfg with a Looking to Play ping replaces the 'anyone on?' message in the main chat.
- #our-games keeps a pinned list of who owns what, so game night is not a poll.
- Three voice rooms and no more: Squad Room, Overflow Room and Chill Zone.
- No moderator role: the host is the moderator and Host holds the only elevated permissions.
Recommended Vetox setup
Self-Roles
Post a Self-Roles panel in #squad-chat for Looking to Play and Night Owl so the pings in #lfg reach the right people.
Reminders
Schedule a Reminder in #game-plan the morning of each session so the roster confirms before dinner.
Temp Voice
Point Temp Voice at Squad Room so a fourth room appears only on the nights you need one.
Games
Turn on Games in #not-games for the nights when nobody can agree on what to play.
Questions
What is the Guest role for?
A friend-of-a-friend who joins for a session. Guests see Squad and the voice rooms so they can play, but not The Plan, so the squad's private planning stays between the squad. Give them the Squad role when they become a regular.
Why is there no moderator role?
With twenty people who know each other, the host is enough. Every other role in this layout is cosmetic: Squad for the regulars, Guest for visitors, and two ping roles. If the group grows past that, move to a layout with a real officer tier.
Can I add a channel per game?
You can, but the point of #lfg and #our-games is that you do not have to. One channel per game is how a squad server becomes a ghost town of nine empty channels.
Common mistakes
- Adding a moderator role to a friend group, which turns one friend into the person who has to say no.
- Keeping a rules channel nobody reads; a squad of friends runs on the pinned message in #squad-chat.
Consider instead
- Recruitment-First Clan You want the squad to grow beyond the friends you already have.
- FPS Clan with Ranks You want squads, tryouts and a promotion path in one competitive game.
