Server structure

Overview

A community where the work is a mix and the audience is in the room. Mixes is the core: #mix-uploads takes one link per post with a required genre and length line, #set-feedback is where a DJ asks for a specific critique rather than a thumbs-up, and #track-ids answers the question every dancer asks. #radio-schedule is read-only and lists who is playing in the listening rooms this week, which is what turns a server into a station. The Floor is the live half: Main Room is a stage channel where the DJ plays and everyone else listens, Second Room is an open voice channel for the smaller sets, and #now-playing runs alongside as the shout channel. Booth Talk is for the people behind the decks: #gear-and-setup, #mixing-technique, #library-and-crates for organising music, and #bookings-and-gigs where paid work is posted. Nightlife is what stops the server being only technical: #whats-on for local events, #club-and-venue-talk, #photos-from-the-night and #genre-rabbit-holes. Roles separate Resident DJ, who can claim a slot in the schedule, from Guest DJ, who is booked for one night, from Dancer, which is most of the server and is not a lesser role — a listening room with only DJs in it is a rehearsal. Moderators keep a hidden staff area for handling bookings and the reports that come with late-night rooms.

When to use it

DJ servers usually become an upload dump: mixes posted with no context, no feedback beyond emoji, and a listening room nobody knows is running. This layout requires a genre and length line on every upload, separates asking for critique from posting a link, publishes a weekly schedule so the rooms have an audience, and keeps a stage channel so a set is heard rather than talked over.
