Overview
A community for people who listen to electronic music first and make it second. Subgenres get their own rooms - #house, #techno, #drum-and-bass, #trance, #bass-music, #ambient-and-downtempo and #garage-and-breaks - so a conversation about a new techno label does not land in front of the trance crowd. New music has a category of its own: #release-radar is a curated, read-only feed the Curator role posts to, #new-releases-chat is the reaction to it, #track-id is for the clip you cannot name, #label-watch follows labels and #track-of-the-week is a weekly poll. Mixes are a forum tagged by style and by kind of set, with #mix-feedback for the DJs among the members and #radio-shows-and-podcasts as a feed. Festivals get a read-only calendar, a #festival-meetups forum tagged by region, #event-photos and #lineup-reactions. The production corner is small on purpose: #production-chat, #work-in-progress-tracks, #sound-design-tips and #daw-and-plugins, enough for the fans who also produce without turning the server into a producer server. The floor is voice: Main Room, Second Room, a Listening Session stage with #session-chat, and Chill Out.
When to use it
Your electronic music chat is one channel where a drum-and-bass thread, a festival carpool and a request to identify a track all arrive in the same minute. This layout splits the scene by subgenre, gives new releases a curated feed and a weekly vote, puts mixes in a forum where they stay findable, and gives every festival a meetup thread by region.
What makes it different
- Seven subgenre rooms, each with a self-assigned role, so House and Techno regulars find their own corner.
- #release-radar is a read-only curated feed; #new-releases-chat and #track-of-the-week carry the reaction and the vote.
- #mixes is a forum tagged by style and set type, with #mix-feedback for the members who DJ.
- #festival-meetups is a forum tagged by region, so a carpool thread survives until the festival weekend.
- A small production corner keeps the fans who also produce without turning this into a producer server.
Recommended Vetox setup
Self-Roles
Post a Self-Roles panel in #genre-roles for House, Techno, Drum and Bass, Trance, Bass Music and Ambient, plus Producer and DJ, so a subgenre room can mention its regulars.
Notifications
Feed the radio shows and podcasts the community follows into #radio-shows-and-podcasts with Podcast and RSS Notifications so new episodes arrive on their own.
Temp Voice
Point Temp Voice at Main Room so a third listening group gets its own room on a busy night without a permanent channel.
Reminders
Schedule a Reminder in #session-chat for the weekly Listening Session and one in #new-releases-chat every Friday for release day.
Starboard
Point Starboard at the subgenre rooms so the track shares with the most reactions collect in one place for newcomers.
Questions
Who posts in #release-radar?
The Curator role, which the admins give to the members who follow releases closely. The channel is read-only for everyone else; reactions and discussion go in #new-releases-chat, and the weekly poll in #track-of-the-week picks a favourite.
What is the Listening Session stage for?
A weekly session where the host plays a set or an album front to back. Stage channels keep the audience muted and the host in control, and #session-chat carries the reactions so the playback is never talked over.
Can I add more subgenres?
Yes, but add a room only when a subgenre already has regulars in #new-releases-chat. Pair each room with a self-assigned role in #genre-roles so it has people from day one.
Common mistakes
- Letting anyone post in #release-radar, which turns a curated feed into the same link wall as the chat rooms.
- Adding a subgenre room every time someone asks; a room with three regulars is a dead room, and the roles list gets longer than the server.
Consider instead
- DJ and Nightlife Community when most members DJ or promote and the server needs a gigs board and a promoters room
- Producer Feedback Community when the production corner is the busiest part and tracks need a feedback forum
