Overview

A server for musicians who want to find each other and make something, built so the two halves of that - finding and making - do not share a channel. Looking For is a category of one channel per need: #looking-for-vocalist, #looking-for-guitarist, #looking-for-bassist, #looking-for-drummer, #looking-for-keys, #looking-for-producer and #looking-for-songwriter, each with a slowmode so it stays a list of posts and not a chat, plus #offering-my-skills for musicians advertising themselves. Because Vocalist, Guitarist, Bassist, Drummer, Keys, Producer and Songwriter are self-assigned roles, a post can mention the people it needs. Once a project forms, a Project Lead gets it a room: #project-board lists the active projects, #project-room-1 to #project-room-3 hold them, and two Project Voice rooms sit alongside. Demos go in the #demo-drop forum tagged by how finished they are, finished collaborations in #finished-showcase, and files in #stems-and-files. The business side is deliberately plain: a read-only #contracts-basics primer, #splits-and-credits, #distribution-and-rights and #ask-a-question. Jam Room and Writing Room are for playing, and the Showcase Stage is for the finished work.

When to use it

Every week someone posts 'looking for a drummer' in your general chat and it is gone by the afternoon; the projects that do form have nowhere to work. This layout gives every instrument a listing channel that stays a list, turns a formed project into a numbered room with a lead who can pin, and adds a plain-language business category so the question about splits gets asked before the release, not after.

What makes it different

  • Seven looking-for channels, one per need, each slowmoded so it reads as a board and not a chat.
  • Instrument roles are self-assigned and mentionable, so a looking-for post can ping every available drummer.
  • #project-board and three numbered project rooms turn a formed project into a workspace with a lead who can pin.
  • #demo-drop is a forum tagged from rough idea to near final, so nobody critiques a sketch as a master.
  • A read-only #contracts-basics primer sits next to #splits-and-credits, so the money talk happens early.

Recommended Vetox setup

  • Self-Roles

Post a Self-Roles panel in #instrument-roles for Vocalist, Guitarist, Bassist, Drummer, Keys, Producer and Songwriter; the looking-for channels depend on those mentions.

  • Tickets

Put a ticket panel in #how-this-works to request a project room; staff assign the next free room and give the requester Project Lead from the ticket.

  • Temp Voice

Point Temp Voice at Jam Room so a fourth project gets its own voice room the night it needs one.

  • Embed Messages

Write the #contracts-basics primer as Embed Messages - one per topic: splits, credits, ownership, sample clearance - so it reads like a page, not a scroll.

Questions

What happens when all three project rooms are taken?

Staff ask the oldest project to report in #project-board; a project that has gone quiet for a month gives its room back. If three is never enough, add #project-room-4 with the same overwrites rather than a channel per project.

Can a Project Lead manage their room?

Project Leads can pin and delete messages in the project rooms and nothing else. Moderators keep the rest; the lead role is for keeping the room tidy, not for running the server.

Why are the looking-for channels slowmoded?

A slowmode of five minutes means the channel cannot become a conversation. Replies happen in a thread on the post or in a DM, so the channel stays a list someone can read top to bottom.

Common mistakes

  • Letting looking-for posts share a channel with chat, which is how a request for a bassist disappears in an hour.
  • Creating a permanent channel per project; three rooms that get reassigned outlast fifteen dead channels.
