- Medium
Choose a server, review what will be created or reused, then confirm. Merge keeps what you have; replace rebuilds the server. Vetox takes a safety backup first either way.

Overview
A community of teachers with no students in it, built like the staffroom most schools do not have time for. Membership is gated: a new arrival is a Guest who sees the LOBBY and the public EVENTS category, and opens a ticket in #verify-yourself to become a Verified Teacher or a Trainee Teacher. Verified members get the STAFFROOM: #staffroom-chat, #wins-of-the-week, #ask-colleagues and #the-vent, which has a slowmode and a no-names rule so a bad day can be said out loud without becoming a record. RESOURCE SHARING is a forum, #resource-library, tagged by type and phase so a worksheet posted in September is findable in March, with #resource-requests and #edtech-tools beside it. Six SUBJECT ROOMS from #maths-teachers to #arts-and-music hold the subject-specific talk, and CLASSROOM PRACTICE covers what every subject shares: #classroom-management, #behaviour-strategies, #assessment-and-marking, #inclusion-and-send and #parent-communication. CAREER has #job-openings, #career-progression and #cpd-and-training. EVENTS carries a Webinar Stage for talks, a Staffroom Voice and a Subject Meetup room, and #webinar-signups. Moderators have a hidden room with #verification-queue and #community-logs.
When to use it
Your teacher group chat has three hundred people, a worksheet someone shared last term is unfindable, a colleague's frustrated message about a parent is now a screenshot, and nobody knows who is actually a teacher. This layout verifies members before they see anything, puts resources in a tagged forum, gives venting a slowmoded channel with a no-names rule, and separates subject talk from the practice questions every teacher shares.
What makes it different
- Guests see only the LOBBY and EVENTS until a moderator verifies them as a teacher.
- #resource-library is a forum tagged by type and phase, so a resource is findable a term later.
- #the-vent has a slowmode and a no-names rule, so a bad day gets said without becoming a screenshot.
- Subject rooms and classroom-practice channels are separate, so behaviour advice is not buried in maths talk.
- The Webinar Stage lets a member give a talk to the whole community without an open-microphone free-for-all.
Recommended Vetox setup
Tickets
Put a ticket panel in #verify-yourself so a Guest proves they teach in private and a moderator assigns Verified Teacher from the ticket.
Auto Roles
Give Guest on join so a new arrival sees the LOBBY and EVENTS only until verification.
Auto-Mod
Turn on Auto-Mod for #the-vent to catch names and school names, which are the two things the channel's rule forbids.
Self-Roles
Post a Self-Roles panel in #lobby for Primary, Secondary and Special Education so a question can ping the teachers it applies to.
Starboard
Point Starboard at #resource-library posts so the most-used resources rise to a board new members see first.
Questions
How does verification work?
A new member has the Guest role and sees #lobby, #community-guidelines, #verify-yourself and the public events. They open a ticket in #verify-yourself, show something a moderator accepts as proof they teach, and get Verified Teacher or Trainee Teacher. The moderators track it in #verification-queue.
What are the rules of #the-vent?
No names of students, parents, colleagues or schools; a slowmode so nobody posts in a rush; and nothing said there leaves the server. Auto-Mod helps with the names, moderators handle the rest.
Can someone who is not a teacher join?
As a Guest they can attend webinars on the stage and read the lobby. Everything else is for verified teachers and trainees, and the point of the community is that it stays that way.
Common mistakes
- Skipping verification, which is how a parent or a student ends up reading the vent channel.
- Letting the vent channel run without a slowmode or a no-names rule, so it becomes evidence rather than relief.
- Posting resources in the subject chats instead of the forum, where they scroll away within a week.
Consider instead
- School Department The teachers are one department who also need classrooms for their students.
