Overview

A variety streamer's problem is that the game changes every week and the server does not. This layout separates the two. The Current Rotation category has four channels that are renamed, not recreated: #game-of-the-week, #long-term-playthrough, #chat-picks for the game chat voted in, and #retired-games for the ones that rotated out. The Game Lounges category is the permanent half: FPS, RPG, indie, horror nights, racing and sports, and a retro corner, so a viewer who only cares about one genre always has somewhere to be. #live-alerts, #stream-schedule and #whats-next tell people what is coming, #stream-chat handles the overflow, #highlights is a forum with a thread per clip and tags for funny, clutch and fail moments, and #stream-suggestions is the box for everything else. LFG has a forum tagged by platform, a chat and three capped party rooms. The three subscriber tiers stack: every sub sees the Subscribers category, Tier 2 and up sees the early schedule, and Tier 3 and VIPs sit in the Inner Circle with game-night invites and their own voice. The Mod Team has chat reports, a raid-watch feed and Vetox logs; the Streamer Office holds sponsor deals and the content calendar and is visible to nobody else.

When to use it

Your server has a channel for every game you ever played, most of them dead, and new viewers cannot tell where anyone is. This layout replaces the graveyard with four rotation slots that get renamed each week and six genre lounges that never change. LFG gets a forum tagged by platform so people find a squad without spamming general, subscriber tiers each unlock one more room, and your moderators get a raid-watch feed and a place to coordinate that viewers cannot see.

Questions

How do I rotate a game out?

Rename #game-of-the-week to the new game and post a pinned message in #retired-games saying where the old discussion went. The channel keeps its history and its permissions; nothing is deleted and nobody has to learn a new layout.

What is the difference between the rotation slots and the genre lounges?

A rotation slot is about the game on stream right now and changes every week. A lounge is about a genre and never changes, so a viewer who only watches horror nights always has #horror-nights regardless of what is in rotation.

Why three subscriber categories instead of one?

Because tiers are only worth paying for if they differ. Every subscriber sees the Subscribers category, Tier 2 and above also see the early schedule, and Tier 3 and VIPs sit in the Inner Circle. Remove a category if you sell fewer tiers.

Do I need the Streamer Office if I have no sponsors?

Keep #content-calendar and #planning and delete #sponsor-deals. The category is hidden from the mod team on purpose, so it is the right place for anything about the business side of streaming that moderators do not need to see.

Common mistakes

Creating a new channel for each game instead of renaming a rotation slot, which leaves a dozen empty channels within two months.
Giving every sub tier the same perks, so nobody has a reason to move up.
