Overview

A server for an amateur league of six or so teams run by a commissioner, a couple of admins and a referee pool. Fixtures and results are the spine: #fixtures is read-only and posted by the commissioner, #results is posted by referees after each match, #league-table is updated weekly and #postponements-and-reschedules is where the rain and the missing goalkeeper get handled. Each team is a role with a private channel (#team-foxes, #team-owls and so on) that only that team and the league office can see, so line-ups and excuses stay inside the squad. REFEREES is hidden from players: #match-assignments is read-only from the commissioner, #disciplinary holds cards and complaints, and #rule-clarifications is where refs agree how to call the awkward stuff before it happens on the pitch. VENUES carries #venues-and-pitches, #pitch-availability, #weather-and-cancellations (commissioner only) and #directions-and-parking. PLAYERS is the social side: #players-lounge, #free-agents-board for people without a team, #injuries-and-availability, kit, photos and #banter. Registration is a read-only channel with a form; the commissioner's office, the registrations queue and league finances are hidden.

When to use it

Six teams, one group chat, and every week the same three problems: someone did not see the fixture change, a captain argues a result in front of everyone, and the referee for Sunday still has not been confirmed. This layout makes fixtures and results read-only feeds from the people responsible, gives each team a private room, and puts referee assignments and disciplinary matters where players cannot see them.

What makes it different

  • Fixtures and weather cancellations are posted by the commissioner only; results are posted by referees only.
  • Each team is a role with a private channel that only that squad and the league office can see.
  • The referee category is hidden from players and holds assignments, disciplinary and rule clarifications.
  • Free agents have a board of their own, so captains looking for a striker know where to look.
  • Registration is a form in a read-only channel, reviewed in a hidden registrations queue.

Recommended Vetox setup

  • Self-Roles

Post a Self-Roles panel in #pick-your-team for the six team roles and Spectator so new members land in the right private channel.

  • Applications

Take player registration in #registration and grant Registered Player from the submission; the commissioner reviews it in #registrations-queue.

  • Reminders

Schedule a Reminder in #fixtures every Thursday with the weekend's matches and kick-off times.

  • Embed Messages

Keep the league table as one Embed Message in #league-table that you edit weekly instead of posting a new one every round.

  • Logs

Send message logs to #league-logs so a deleted result or a changed fixture can be traced.

Questions

Who can see a team channel?

Members holding that team's role, Team Captains, referees, moderators and the commissioner. Other teams cannot see it, so line-ups and tactics stay private.

How do referees get their assignments?

The commissioner posts them in #match-assignments, which is read-only for referees. They confirm or swap in #referee-room, and players never see either channel.

We have ten teams, not six. What changes?

Add a role and a private channel for each extra team, copying the overwrites from an existing team channel. The rest of the layout does not care how many teams there are.

Common mistakes

  • Letting captains post results themselves, which starts a dispute every week; referees post, captains query in the players lounge.
  • Making the disciplinary channel visible to players, which turns every yellow card into a public trial.
