Overview

A club for people who still play the old stuff, on original hardware, on a handheld or through an emulator, and who want a room for each. The Consoles category splits the conversation the way the shelf is split: #nintendo, #sega, #playstation and #arcade-and-handhelds, with a matching self-assigned role for each so a question about a Saturn cable reaches the Sega people. The Tech Bench is where the hobby actually lives: #emulation-help for cores, shaders and controller mapping, and #crt-and-hardware-mods for capacitor jobs, RGB mods and the eternal search for a working tube. The Clubhouse is for showing off: #collection-showcase for the wall of boxes and #pickups-and-finds for the flea-market score of the weekend. Game of the Month is the club's heartbeat: members nominate in #gotm-nominations, the committee picks one, everyone plays it through the month in #gotm-discussion, and the Game of the Month voice room is where the club meets to compare notes and play together. Club Room is the general voice; the Committee has a hidden chat and a log channel. The whole thing stays small on purpose, because a retro club is a conversation among people who care, not a feed.

When to use it

A handful of collectors have been swapping repair tips and emulator settings across three group chats, and the game-of-the-month idea keeps dying because nobody can find last month's thread. This layout gives each console family a channel, gives repairs and emulation a bench of their own, and makes the monthly game a fixed ritual with a nomination channel and a voice room.

Questions

Why only four console channels?

Because a club this size talks in a few rooms, not many. Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation and arcade-plus-handhelds cover most collections. When one channel is clearly carrying two conversations, split it then; do not pre-split for consoles nobody owns yet.

How does Game of the Month work in practice?

Members post nominations in #gotm-nominations during the last week of the month, the committee picks one and announces it in #club-bulletin, and #gotm-discussion is cleared for the new game. The Game of the Month voice room is for playing and talking through it together.

Is emulation talk allowed?

Emulator setup, shaders, controller mapping and accuracy questions belong in #emulation-help. Keep the club's rules in #club-rules clear that sharing copyrighted game files is not allowed, and the channel stays on the safe side of the line.

Common mistakes

Adding a channel per console generation, which splits a small club into a dozen empty rooms.
Skipping the nomination step, so the game of the month becomes whatever the loudest member wants.

Consider instead
