Overview

A general gaming community whose members rotate between games and want a channel for each of the popular ones without a sidebar of fifty. Eight games get a category each - Fortnite, Minecraft, Valorant, League, Apex, Roblox, Call of Duty and GTA are the starting set; swap any of them for what your members actually play - and every category has the same three things: a chat channel, an LFG channel and a party voice sized to that game's squad, five seats for Valorant, ten for Minecraft, three for Apex. Game roles are self-assigned and mentionable, so #valorant-lfg can ping the Valorant players and nobody else. The Hangout category is the shared living room: #general, #introductions, #memes, #clips, #setups-and-battlestations, a read-only #game-news feed, #suggestions and #bot-playground so commands stay out of chat. The Voice Hub is a Join to Create channel for Temp Voice, two Hangout rooms, a Watch Party and an Event Stage, which keeps the permanent voice list short while game parties come and go. Events has a read-only #upcoming-events board Event Hosts post to, #tournament-signups, #event-lounge and #giveaways. Staff have a hidden chat, a report review channel, an audit feed and a lounge voice. The ladder runs Owner, Admin, Moderator, Helper, Event Host, Booster, Regular and Member, with Regular earned through Leveling.

When to use it

Your community server has a channel for every game anyone ever asked for, most of them empty, and LFG posts for six different games share one channel where nobody finds a party. This layout gives the eight games people actually play a category each with chat, LFG and a right-sized party voice, moves everything else into one hangout, and lets Temp Voice handle the rooms that a permanent list cannot.

What makes it different

  • Eight game categories, each with a chat channel, an LFG channel and a party voice sized to that game's squad.
  • Game roles are self-assigned and mentionable, so an LFG post pings only the players of that game.
  • The Voice Hub has a Join to Create channel for Temp Voice, so party rooms appear and vanish on demand.
  • #upcoming-events and #giveaways are read-only for members, so an event is never buried in #general.
  • The Regular role is earned through Leveling, giving long-time members visible standing without staff work.

Recommended Vetox setup

  • Self-Roles

Post a Self-Roles panel in #pick-your-games for the eight game roles so each LFG channel can ping the right players.

  • Temp Voice

Point Temp Voice at Join to Create so a party gets its own room and the permanent list stays at two Hangout rooms.

  • Leveling

Give Regular as a Leveling role reward at a level an active member reaches in about a month, so the role means presence.

  • Giveaways

Run Giveaways from #giveaways with entry limited to the Regular role, so brand-new joins cannot sweep every draw.

  • Welcomer

Send a Welcomer message in #welcome that points new members to #rules and #pick-your-games before anything else.

Questions

Our members do not play these eight games. Can I change them?

Yes, that is the intent. Rename a category, its two text channels, its party voice and its role to the new game, and adjust the party voice seat limit to that game's squad size. Keep the pattern of chat, LFG and party per game.

Why does every game have its own LFG channel instead of one shared one?

Because an LFG post is time-sensitive and game-specific. In a shared channel a request for a ranked five-stack is buried under a Minecraft server invite within minutes, and pinging a game role in the game's own channel reaches the people who can actually join.

How many permanent voice channels should I keep?

Two Hangout rooms, the Watch Party and the Event Stage, plus one party voice per game. Everything else comes from Temp Voice through Join to Create, so the sidebar shows rooms that are in use rather than a list of silent ones.

What is #bot-playground for?

Commands, rank cards and anything that produces a wall of bot output. Keeping it out of #general keeps the chat readable, and it is where members check their Leveling progress towards Regular.

Common mistakes

  • Adding a category for every game someone asks for; keep it at eight and swap a dead one out instead of adding a ninth.
  • Running LFG for all games in one channel, where a Minecraft server invite buries the ranked five-stack request within minutes.
  • Leaving a dozen permanent voice channels instead of two Hangout rooms plus Temp Voice, so the list is mostly silence.

Consider instead

  • Mobile Gaming Lounge most of your members play on phones and want genre channels rather than PC and console titles
  • Competitive FPS Squad you are one fixed team grinding a single shooter rather than a community that rotates games
