Topic-Split Community
A general community split by topic: nine named channels, a media wall, events, suggestions and a help desk.
- 7 categories
- 35 channels
- 13 roles
- Medium
Choose a server, review what will be created or reused, then confirm. Merge keeps what you have; replace rebuilds the server. Vetox takes a safety backup first either way.

Channels
FRONT DOOR
- welcome
Vetox greets each arrival here. Read #rules, pick interests in #role-menu, then say hello in #lounge.
- rules
Short, numbered, enforced. Reading them is the whole onboarding.
- announcements
Server news from the Owner and Admins. Follow this channel if you want it in your own server.
- role-menu
Pick Film Buff, Music Fan, Gamer, Bookworm or Event Ping. Roles are how pings find you.
- faq
The ten questions staff answer every week, answered once. Ask new ones in #quick-questions.
TOPICS
- lounge
The running conversation. If a subject has its own channel, take it there; if not, it lives here.
- introductions30s slowmode
One message about you. Replies go in a thread so the next introduction stays visible.
- movies-and-tv
Films, series, what to watch next. Spoilers behind spoiler tags for a week after release.
- music-corner
New releases, old favourites, gigs and the playlist link that gets asked for monthly.
- games-talk
What you are playing and whether it is any good. Looking-for-group pings go through the Gamer role.
- food-and-cooking
Recipes, restaurant finds and the photo of the thing you made. Successes and failures both welcome.
- tech-and-gadgets
Phones, PCs, home setups and 'is this worth it' questions.
- books-and-reading
What you are reading, what you finished, what you gave up on and why.
- pets-and-animals
Your animals, other people's animals, and advice from people who have kept them.
- everything-else
The one overflow channel. If it does not fit a topic channel it fits here.
MEDIA
- photo-wall
Photos from your week. One post per moment; conversation about it goes in a thread.
- clips-and-videos
Short clips and links to longer videos. Say what it is in the message, not just the link.
- made-by-members
Art, builds, crafts, code, food. Made by you, not found by you.
EVENTS
- event-calendar
Dates, times and links for upcoming events. Staff post; everyone reads. Questions go in #event-chat.
- event-chat
Talk during and about events. Ping Event Ping when something is starting.
- event-ideas
Propose an event. If three people say yes, a moderator puts it on the calendar.
- Event Stage
SUGGESTIONS AND HELP
- suggestions60s slowmode
One suggestion per message; Vetox adds the vote buttons. Discussion belongs in #suggestion-talk.
- suggestion-talk
Argue for or against anything in #suggestions. Staff post decisions here too.
- help-desk
Press the button to open a private ticket with staff. For quick questions use #quick-questions.
- quick-questions
Anything that fits in one message and can be answered by any member.

Overview
The layout for a community that has outgrown one chat and keeps arguing about where things go. Front Door is four read-only channels plus #faq, so a newcomer learns the place in a minute. Topics is the heart of the server: #lounge for the running conversation, #introductions with a slowmode, then eight channels named for what happens in them - #movies-and-tv, #music-corner, #games-talk, #food-and-cooking, #tech-and-gadgets, #books-and-reading, #pets-and-animals - and exactly one overflow, #everything-else, so off-topic has a home instead of leaking into every channel. Media keeps #photo-wall, #clips-and-videos and #made-by-members out of the text flow. Events has a read-only #event-calendar that only staff write to, #event-chat, #event-ideas and an Event Stage for the monthly big thing. Suggestions and Help holds #suggestions with a sixty-second slowmode, #suggestion-talk for the debate, a read-only #help-desk for the ticket panel and #quick-questions for everything that does not need a ticket. Voice is four rooms named for a vibe rather than a number, plus AFK. Staff have #staff-chat, #reports-inbox, a read-only #vetox-logs and their own voice room, all hidden from members. Twelve roles: a staff ladder of four, Regular earned through Leveling, Member, Event Ping and four interest roles that are mentionable so a 'who is watching the finale tonight' reaches the right people.
When to use it
Your #general has three conversations running at once, the film people and the music people talk past each other, and event announcements scroll away in ten minutes. This layout gives each recurring interest a channel with an obvious name, gives events and suggestions structured homes, and puts a help desk in front of the moderators so questions stop arriving in DMs.
What makes it different
- Eight topic channels named for their subject, with one overflow channel so off-topic has a single home.
- #event-calendar is read-only and staff-written, so the schedule never scrolls away under replies.
- #help-desk is a read-only ticket panel, moving member questions out of moderator DMs.
- Four interest roles are mentionable, so a film-night ping reaches only the Film Buffs.
- Voice rooms are named Film Club, Listening Party and Game Night, so people join for a purpose.
Recommended Vetox setup
Welcomer
Point Welcomer at #welcome so every arrival is greeted and sent to #rules and #role-menu before they post in #lounge.
Self-Roles
Post a Self-Roles panel in #role-menu with Film Buff, Music Fan, Gamer, Bookworm and Event Ping, so interest pings are opt-in.
Suggestions
Run Suggestions in #suggestions so each idea gets vote buttons and a status, and keep the arguing in #suggestion-talk.
Tickets
Put the Tickets panel in #help-desk so a member opens a private thread with staff instead of pinging a moderator in #lounge.
Leveling
Award Regular as a Leveling role reward around the level a weekly visitor reaches in a month, so the hoisted tier means presence.
Questions
Which topic channels should I rename for my community?
All eight are placeholders for whatever your members already talk about. Keep the pattern, one subject per channel with a plain name, and keep #everything-else as the only overflow. If you cannot name eight subjects yet, delete the extras rather than leaving empty channels; an empty topic channel tells newcomers the server is quiet.
Why is the help desk read-only?
It holds one message, the ticket panel. A member presses the button and gets a private channel with staff. If the channel were open, questions would be asked in public and answered late, and the panel would scroll out of sight.
What is #reports-inbox for?
It is the staff-only channel where reports land, whether from a Vetox report command or from a moderator copying a message in. Keeping reports out of #staff-chat means the conversation about a report and the report itself are not interleaved with everything else.
Common mistakes
- Adding a tenth and eleventh topic channel the week someone asks for one, instead of waiting until a subject takes over #everything-else for a month.
- Leaving #event-calendar writable for everyone, so the schedule turns into a chat and the actual dates get buried.
Consider instead
- Starter Community Hub when the community is still a few dozen people and nine topic channels would each look abandoned
- Large Community with Forums when topic channels scroll too fast to follow and each subject needs threads of its own
