Overview

Sixteen channels for a family that spans three generations and two time zones. Home is #family-chat, #photo-album, #kids-corner - where links, files and outside emoji are switched off so it stays a place a child can post in - and #grown-ups-only, hidden from the Kid role. The Fridge is the household admin: a read-only #family-calendar that Parents write, #reminders where Vetox posts the dentist and the school trip, #chores-rota and #shopping-list. Help Desk is for the members who did not grow up with this: #help-for-grandparents, where a question like 'how do I join the call' gets a patient answer, and a read-only #how-to-guides where Parents pin the step-by-step for joining a call, posting a photo and turning on notifications. Occasions holds #milestones for birthdays and anniversaries, #gift-planning, hidden from the Kid role so surprises stay surprises, and #holiday-planning. Calls is Family Call, Kids Game Room and Sunday Dinner, the standing weekly call. Six roles: Owner and Parent hold the admin permissions, Grown-Up is every adult, Kid is the role the kids-safe permissions attach to, Grandparent is mentionable so the family can check whether the call worked, and Chore Reminder is what the rota pings.

When to use it

The family group chat has the school photos, the dentist appointment, the chores argument and grandad asking how to see the photos, all in one scroll. This layout splits them into channels, keeps a kids-safe corner where nothing from outside can be posted, hides the gift planning from the children, and gives the grandparents a help desk with the instructions pinned.

What makes it different
