Overview

Sixteen channels for a group of friends who play together most nights and never need to recruit. Crew Chat is #crew-chat, #clips-and-plays for the moment somebody did something absurd, and #game-deals for the sale that means everyone buys the same thing. Squad Up is the reason the server exists: one channel per game - #minecraft-squad-up, #rocket-league-squad-up, #overwatch-squad-up and #party-games-squad-up - each paired with a mentionable role of the same name, so 'anyone for Rocket League' pings the four people who own it and nobody else, plus #tonight for the general 'who is on' with the Down to Play role. Party Voice is Party 1 and Party 2, a five-seat Sweat Lobby for the ranked nights when nobody wants a sixth voice, Spectator Couch for the friend who is only watching, and AFK. The Vault is the reference shelf: a read-only #server-ips-and-codes where the Owner and Admin pin the Minecraft server address, friend codes and party passwords, #game-night-schedule for the standing Thursday session, and #crew-lore for the inside jokes a newcomer would need explained. Seven roles and none of them are staff: Owner, Admin, four game roles and Down to Play. Rename the four games to whatever your crew actually plays; the pattern is one channel and one role per game.

When to use it

Every evening somebody types 'anyone on?' into the group chat and the people who do not play that game mute it. This layout gives each game its own squad-up channel and a role to ping, a general #tonight for the nights that could go anywhere, party rooms sized for the way you actually play, and a read-only vault so the server address is never asked for again.

What makes it different

Recommended Vetox setup

Self-Roles
Post a Self-Roles panel in #crew-chat with Minecraft, Rocket League, Overwatch, Party Games and Down to Play, so each person picks the games they own.
Temp Voice
Point Temp Voice at Party 2 so a third group on a busy night gets a room without anyone touching the server settings.
Reminders
Set a Reminder in #game-night-schedule on Thursday afternoon mentioning Down to Play, and one on the day a pre-ordered game unlocks.
Notifications
Add Steam Notifications for the four games to #game-deals so patch notes and sales arrive without anyone checking.

Questions

What if we play different games from the four listed?

Rename them. Each game is one squad-up channel and one role with the same name; keep that pairing and swap the names. Three games is fine, six is the point where you should ask whether the crew really plays all of them.

Why is there a general #tonight as well as the per-game channels?

Some nights nobody knows what they want to play. #tonight with the Down to Play role is the 'I am free, suggest something' channel; the per-game channels are for when you already know.

Do we need the Sweat Lobby?

Only if your crew plays ranked. A five-seat room means the sixth person cannot join mid-match and start a conversation. If nobody plays ranked, delete it or raise the limit.

Common mistakes

Adding a recruitment or applications channel to a crew server, which turns a friend group into a community that needs moderating.
One voice channel per game, so five rooms sit empty every night while everyone crowds into the first one.

Consider instead

Tiny Friend Group when games are an occasional thing and the group mostly wants one chat and a plans channel
Tabletop Night Friends when the game is a tabletop campaign with a schedule, notes and dice rather than online sessions
