Choose a server, review what will be created or reused, then confirm. Merge keeps what you have; replace rebuilds the server. Vetox takes a safety backup first either way.

Overview
Most servers that say they are for making friends are one enormous general chat, which is the worst possible shape for it: a newcomer says hello, three people say hi back, and nothing happens. This layout solves the specific problem. #introductions asks for a fixed set of things — where you are roughly, what you do with your time, what you are hoping to find here — because an introduction with structure gets replies and a bare hello does not. #weekly-pairing is the mechanism: members opt in and are matched with someone new each week, which converts the vague hope of meeting people into an actual conversation with one person. #how-it-went is where pairs report back, and it quietly holds the whole thing together. Conversation Starters exists because small talk is a skill: #question-of-the-day, #unpopular-opinions, #show-me-something and #two-truths. The rooms are deliberately capped small — a twelve-person voice channel is a party where nobody talks, so Chat Room One through Three hold six each, which is the size where a quiet person still speaks. Safety is not decorative here: #safety-and-boundaries states the rules on direct messages and personal information, #report-a-problem is open to everyone, and moderators are visible. #meet-again is for the pairs who kept talking.
When to use it
A newcomer joins a big social server, posts a greeting into a fast general chat, gets three emoji and leaves. Nothing in the room's design ever puts them in a conversation with one person. This layout gives introductions a structure that earns replies, matches members weekly so meeting someone is a default rather than an initiative, and caps voice rooms at the size where a quiet person still gets a turn.
What makes it different
- Introductions follow a structure, because a bare hello reliably gets nothing back.
- A weekly pairing turns hoping to meet people into one actual conversation.
- Voice rooms are capped at six, which is the size where a quiet person still speaks.
- Direct-message and personal-information rules are stated rather than assumed.
Recommended Vetox setup
Welcomer
Point Welcomer at #introductions with the prompt included, so a newcomer's first post already has the shape that gets replies.
Reminders
Set a weekly Reminder in #weekly-pairing so the matching happens on a rhythm rather than when someone remembers.
Temp Voice
Enable Temp Voice so a busy evening opens another small room rather than forcing everyone into one crowded one.
Auto-Mod
Run Auto-Mod across every channel, because a server aimed at newcomers attracts people looking for easy targets.
Questions
Does weekly pairing actually work?
It is the single highest-impact thing a server like this can do, because it removes the hardest step. Nobody has to decide to approach a stranger; the server has already introduced you and given you a reason to say something. Roughly half of pairings produce a real conversation and a smaller fraction produce a lasting one, which is a far better rate than any general chat achieves.
Why cap the voice rooms so low?
Because conversation quality falls off a cliff above about six people. In a twelve-person room the two most confident members hold the floor, everyone else listens, and the quiet members conclude they are not wanted. Three rooms of six produce three conversations where everyone speaks, which is what people actually joined for.
How strict should the direct-message rules be?
State that unsolicited direct messages are discouraged, that nobody should be asked for personal details, and that reporting is welcome and will not be treated as an overreaction. Servers built for meeting strangers attract a small number of people looking for isolated targets, and the defence is a visible reporting route plus a culture where using it is normal rather than dramatic.
Common mistakes
- Running one huge general chat, where a newcomer's greeting is invisible within a minute.
- Uncapped voice rooms, which become audiences of twenty where four people talk.
- Treating safety as a pinned line, in a server whose whole purpose is meeting strangers.
Consider instead
- Introvert-Friendly Social Members find live conversation difficult and need a slower, lower-pressure format.
- Starter Community Hub You are building a community around a shared interest rather than meeting people generally.
