Channels

READ FIRST

  • how-appeals-work

One ticket per sanction, one reviewer who was not involved, a decision in writing.

  • what-to-include

Your account name, the date, the rule cited, and what you would do differently.

  • rules-reference

The main server's rules, word for word, so you can cite the one in your case.

  • decisions-log

Outcomes without names: the rule, the sanction, the decision and the reason.

  • queue-notices

How many appeals are open and the current wait time.

APPEALS

  • submit-an-appeal

Open a ticket from the panel. One appeal per sanction; read #what-to-include first.

  • Appeal Hearing
  • AFK

REVIEWER ROOM

  • reviewer-chat

Who has which case, who needs a second opinion, what is waiting on the main server.

  • case-discussion

One thread per appeal. Link the ticket, tag the state, write the decision before you post it.

  • evidence-lockerHidden from @everyone

Screenshots and logs from the original sanction, posted by main server staff.

  • main-server-liaisonHidden from @everyone

Overview

A small server that exists for one reason: people banned or muted on your main server need somewhere to appeal that is not the main server. They join here, read #how-appeals-work and #what-to-include, check the exact rule they were sanctioned under in #rules-reference, and open a ticket in #submit-an-appeal. Nothing about their case is visible to other appellants. #decisions-log is a read-only record of outcomes without names, so people can see that appeals are actually decided and roughly how, and #queue-notices is where reviewers post the current wait time. The Reviewer Room is hidden: #case-discussion is a forum with one thread per appeal tagged New, Under review, Second opinion or Closed, #evidence-locker holds the screenshots and logs from the original sanction, #main-server-liaison is where staff from the main server answer a reviewer's questions about what happened, and #appeal-transcripts keeps the record. An Appeal Hearing voice room with three seats is there for the rare case that is better talked through. Reinstated and Cooldown roles mark outcomes so a repeat appeal is recognised.

When to use it

Your main server gets enough bans that appeals have become a workload: banned users cannot rejoin to appeal, DMs to moderators are inconsistent and unrecorded, and nobody can say how long an appeal takes. A separate server gives appellants one door, keeps every case in a private ticket with a transcript, lets reviewers deliberate without the appellant watching, and publishes anonymised outcomes so the process is visibly real.

What makes it different

  • #submit-an-appeal is the only writable entry point for appellants; everything else they see is read-only.
  • #case-discussion gives every appeal a reviewer-only thread tagged New, Under review, Second opinion or Closed.
  • #main-server-liaison lets the moderator who issued the sanction answer questions without joining the review.
  • #decisions-log publishes anonymised outcomes so appellants can see the process working.
  • Reinstated and Cooldown roles record the outcome, so a second appeal from the same person is recognised.

Recommended Vetox setup

  • Tickets

Put the appeal panel in #submit-an-appeal and send transcripts to #appeal-transcripts, so a closed case can be reopened with the full conversation.

  • Embed Messages

Post the appeal checklist in #what-to-include with Embed Messages so every appeal arrives with the ban reason, the date and the account name.

  • Reminders

Set a Reminder in #reviewer-chat every three days listing open cases, so no appeal waits without an update in #queue-notices.

  • Logs

Route Logs to #office-logs so Reinstated and Cooldown role changes are on record next to the decision that caused them.

Questions

Should the moderator who banned someone review the appeal?

No. They answer the reviewers' questions in #main-server-liaison and provide evidence for #evidence-locker, but the decision is taken by a Reviewer who was not involved. The Main Server Staff role sees only that liaison channel, the evidence locker and the public categories.

What do the Reinstated and Cooldown roles do?

Nothing in terms of permissions; they are markers. Reinstated means the appeal succeeded and the person was unbanned on the main server. Cooldown means it was denied and they may try again after the period your rules set. A reviewer sees the role before reading a second appeal.

Can appellants see each other?

Only in #appeal-questions, which is slow-moded and for questions about the process, not about cases. Their tickets, the decisions and the reviewer room are invisible to them, and #decisions-log carries no names.

Common mistakes

  • Letting appellants discuss cases with each other in a public channel, which turns the office into a second argument about the ban.
  • Having the moderator who issued the sanction also review the appeal, so the decision is never really a second look.
