Overview

Photographers ask a different question from illustrators: not how did you draw that, but what were you shooting at. The Gallery is split by genre because the answer differs entirely between them — #street, #landscape, #portrait, #wildlife-and-nature, #architecture, #night-and-astro and #film — and a landscape shooter has little to say about flash on a portrait. #critique-corner is the one channel that requires settings with the post: aperture, shutter, ISO and lens, because critique without them is guesswork and half the useful answers are about exposure. The Darkroom covers the half of photography that happens after the shutter: #editing-help, #colour-grading, #before-and-after and #software, where the Lightroom and Capture One arguments live. Gear is deliberately fenced into its own category — #gear-talk, #buying-advice and #repairs-and-maintenance — because gear conversation expands to fill any server that lets it, and keeping it in one place is what keeps the gallery about pictures. Out Shooting is what turns a photo server into a community: #photo-walks plans meetups, #location-scouting shares spots with the sensitive ones withheld, #golden-hour-alerts is a light ping channel, and #challenges runs a weekly prompt. Roles are genre self-roles plus a Film role, since film shooters want each other. Voice has an Editing Session and a Camera Club room.

When to use it

One photo channel means a wildlife shot and a studio portrait get the same three emoji, gear arguments swallow the server within a month, and critique is impossible because nobody posts their settings. This layout splits the gallery by genre, requires exposure settings in the one channel where critique is invited, fences gear into its own category, and gives the server a reason to meet in person.

  Run Auto-Mod on the gallery channels so uncredited reposts are caught before a moderator has to argue about them.
